BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Royal Oak Leprechauns keep their slim lead in the Great Lakes East Division, sweeping the Battle Creek Battle Jacks during a doubleheader on Thursday.

Game One

The Battle Jacks got out to an early advantage on Thursday, scoring three runs in the third inning, highlighted by RBI’s from Brendan Thompson and Dayne Wimberly.

Battle Creek continued their offensive surge in the fourth inning, adding to their lead to take a 4-0 lead off an RBI sacrifice fly from Jake Stedman.

The sixth inning saw the Leprechauns explode for offence, scoring five runs in the top half of the inning to take their first lead of the game, 5-4.

The eighth inning saw Royal Oak have another breakout inning, matching their total from the sixth with five runs to take a 10-4 lead.

Royal Oak’s two breakout innings proved to be too much for the Battle Creek Battle Jacks as they looked to respond in the second half of the doubleheader.

Game Two

Royal Oak scored three runs in the first to storm out to a 3-0 lead, getting to starting pitcher Jackson Phelps.

The Leprechauns added to their lead in the third inning scoring two more runs to take a 5-0 lead.

Both teams struck in the fourth inning, as the Leprechauns took a brief 6-0 lead, before a homerun from Brendan Thompson cut the lead down to five.

The Battle Jacks continued to show fight in the latter part of the game scoring three runs off RBI’s from Brendan Thompson, and AJ Lucas to make it a 6-4 ball game.

However, the Leprechauns shut down the Battle Jacks in the bottom of the seventh striking out two batters.

The Battle Jacks are back in action as they head on the road for their final two games of the season as they are set to faceoff against the Traverse City Pit Spitters on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
