Lengthy right-handers will head to Madison this Summer

Madison, Wis. –  The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of three additional pitchers for the 2017 season. Garrett Milchin (University of Florida), Charlie Sobieraski (University at Buffalo), and Dominic Savino (University of Albany) will join the Mallards at the conclusion of their collegiate seasons.

Milchin, a 6’5”, 210-pound right-handed freshman from Windermere, FL will head north to Madison after his first season in Gainsville. Milchin attended The First Academy in Windermere and was dominant on the mound as well as at third base during his high school career. As a senior, he was named the FACA District 10 Player of the Year. He batted .390 with 24 RBI while compiling an 8-2 record on the mound with a 2.13 ERA. He was a key component of the Academy team and led them to a 16-9 record and a berth in the state playoffs.

Milchin owns a handful of honors including 2016 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Second Team and 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason Florida Region First-Team. His performance during high school led him to be selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 39th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

This season at Florida, Milchin has been effective making the third-most pitching appearances for the Gators. He has pitched in 18 games and owns a 2.33 ERA through 27 innings. Milchin has struck out 18 and has held opponents to a .208 clip at the plate.

Sobieraski, a 6’4”, 210-pound right-handed junior from Lockport, NY will head to Madison after finishing up his season in Buffalo. After primarily being a position player during his freshman season, Sobieraski has transitioned to a role on the mound. Sobieraski has proven to be a reliable starting pitcher for the Bulls over the past two seasons. During his 2016 campaign, Sobieraski started 14 games, pitched 88 innings, struck out 74, and compiled a 5-6 record. This season, he has started in 13 games, tossed 71 innings with 53 strikeouts.

Savino, a 6’6”, 205-pound sophomore right-hander from Smithtown, NY will provide the Mallards with another experienced pitching option this summer. Savino had a successful freshman campaign pitching for Albany in 2016 as he tossed 38.1 innings, posted a 3.05 ERA, and totaled 26 punch-outs. His performance earned him America East All-Conference All-Rookie Team honors.

So far this season, Savino has been the workhorse in the Great Danes bullpen as he has made a team-high 16 appearances, pitching 33.2 innings. He has held opponents to a .250 batting average and has struck out 22 while notching a 3.74 ERA.
