Both the Waterloo Bucks and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters fell today as the Rafters were swept by Wisconsin in a doubleheader. The St. Cloud Rox won their second straight and are 1.5 games back from the Bucks in the North. Rapids still holds a 3.5 game lead on Battle Creek who split with Kalamazoo while Kenosha got swept to move Rockford into third place in the South.

Kalamazoo 13, Battle Creek 1 (Game 1)

The Kalamazoo Growlers scored eight runs early and held on to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers 13-1. Ivan Estrella (Texas Rio Grande) put the Growlers on the board first in the opening inning when he hit an RBI single. The next four out of five batters scored brought in five more runs for Kalamazoo on five hits. Estrella drove in two more in the next inning from a two-run shot. The Growlers put up four more in the fifth to totally break the game open which started with a run-scoring single from Connor Hollis (Houston). The Bombers finally reached the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth when Cale Hennemann (Memphis) knocked in Nikola Vasic (McHenry CC) from a double. Andrew Huff (Middle Tennessee State) drove in number 13 from a double in the ninth while Walter Talcott (Earlham) complete his second inning of work to secure the win. Starter Ryan Johnson threw seven, only allowed the one run on four hits, two walks while striking out seven to earn his first win of the season.

St. Cloud 13, Bismarck 8

The St. Cloud Rox put up runs in six innings and kept battling to defeat the Bismarck Larks 13-8 today. The Rox were first on the board in the opening inning when Matthew Tarantino (Pacific) hit an RBI single. The Larks responded in the bottom half with four runs to take the lead. It all started with a Mason Pierzchalski (North Dakota State) RBI single who later scored on another RBI single. St. Cloud cut their deficit to one in the second and took the lead with three more in the third. The Rox built their two-run lead from a double by Eric Feliz (Notre Dame). St. Cloud would then get two more in the fourth, but the Larks came within three with a run in the bottom half. Tarantino drove in another from a single in the sixth which started a three-run inning. Bismarck wouldn’t go away as they came within four from a two-run shot by Mitch Gallagher (Xavier). The Rox tacked on two more in the top of the eighth from a double and a single, but Bismarck got a solo home run from Scooter Bynum (Northern Illinois) in the bottom half. Reliver Jake Stevenson (Minnesota) settled in for his second inning of work and secured the win for the Rox.

Green Bay 6, Fond du Lac 5 (Game 1)

The Green Bay Bullfrogs held off the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the ninth after they took the lead and won 6-5. The Frogs were on the board first in the top half of the opening inning when Tyler Poole (Mississippi State) hit an RBI double and Troy Johnston (Gonzaga) scored from a fielder’s choice. An error by the second basemen drove in another run in the next inning for Green Bay. The Spiders took the lead with four runs in the sixth from back-to-back RBI doubles by Joe Breaux (McClennan CC) and Alex Ronnenbaum (Arkansas State) who later scored from an RBI single. The Frogs tied the game in the seventh and took the lead with two in the ninth from a Poole triple. Fondy threatened in the ninth with two outs by putting two on and scoring one from an RBI single, but Darren Kelly (Alabama State) came on for the final out for the Frogs.

 

Kenosha 3, Lakeshore 4 (Game 1)

The Lakeshore Chinooks scored once in the eighth which would go on to be the game winner to defeat the Kenosha Kingfish 4-3. The Chinooks scored first in the bottom of the second when Caleb Dean (Lamar) drove in TJ Raguse (Baylor) from a double. The Kingfish took the lead in the fifth with two runs from a fielder’s choice and an error. Lakeshore retook the lead in the bottom half with back-to-back RBI singles. Kenosha tied it up in the sixth when Derek Bangert (Braley) scored on a sac fly. In the bottom of the eighth, Drake Lubin (Eastern Michigan) knocked in a run from a single to score the eventual game winner for Lakeshore.

Wisconsin Rapids 3, Wisconsin 9 (Game 1)

The Wisconsin Woodchucks used two four-run innings to defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters today. The Chucks scored first in the bottom of the second when Dalton Reed (Seminole State) scored from a sac fly. Rapids answered in the top of the third with two from a single by Ryan Stekl (Canisius). The Chucks responded to take the lead in the sixth with four runs which started when Tristan Clarke (New Orleans) led off the inning with a double and scored from a single. Charlie McConnell (Northeastern) knocked in a run for the Rafters in the seventh, but the Woodchucks scored four more in the seventh. Stevie Mangrum (Virginia Tech) led off that inning with an RBI single and later scored from a two-run double. Rapids put three guys on in the top of the ninth, but Tyler Luneke (St. Petersburg) got out of the jam to end the game.

Rockford 5, Madison 3 (Game 1)

The Rockford Rivets needed 14 innings to defeat the Madison Mallards 5-3 today. Madison scored first in the bottom of the opening inning when Cade Bunnell (Madison College) came home from an error by the first basemen. The Rivets got a run back in the fourth when John Rave (Illinois State) hit a solo home run. Rockford took the lead in the seventh when Brian Klein (Texas Tech) hit a double and Trevor Paradoski (Texas Tech) knocked in a run with a single. Madison would eventually force extras with two in the eighth when Maverick Handley (Stanford) knocked in a run from a single and Zac Taylor (Illinois) scored on a sac fly. The game then went scoreless for five straight until the Rivets knocked in the eventual game winners from a Bren Spillane (Illinois) single and an RBI single by Rave.

Madison 6, Rockford 3 (Game 2)

The Madison Mallards scored late and fought off a late rally by the Rockford Rivets to win 6-3. The first four innings of the game went scoreless until Jake Matheny (Indiana) scored for Madison from a wild pitch in the fifth. Doran Turchin (Illinois) put up another for the Mallards in the sixth when he scored from a sac fly. The Rivets tied the game in the bottom half when Ryan Hutchinson ( ) scored on a wild pitch and Zach Rheams (Texas Tech) knocked in a run from a sac fly. Madison broke the tie and took the lead for three runs in the seventh. The first run scored from a bases loaded walk and Thomas Smart (Oakton) hit a two-run double in the next at bat. Madison tacked on one more in the ninth and Rockford got one form a wild pitch, but the Mallards got the next batter to strikeout for the win.

Thunder Bay 7, Waterloo 4

The Thunder Bay Border Cats needed 13 innings to end the Waterloo Bucks winning streak at nine for a 7-4 victory. The Bucks were first on the board in the second when Zach Malis (Grand Canyon) scored on a sac fly. Waterloo extended their lead to three with a sac fly and an RBI single in the third. The Bucks went up by four from a single in the fourth by Tyler Stover (Louisiana-Lafayette). Thunder Bay then started to chip away at their deficit as they got three in the sixth. Andy Weber (Virginia) scored the first from a sac fly followed by an RBI single and a bases loaded walk. The Border Cats would eventually force extras from an RBI double by Braden Mosley (Southeast Missouri). Four scoreless innings later, Thunder Bay took the lead when Mosley scored on a wild pitch and added two more from a two-RBI double to eventually win the game.

Willmar 9, Rochester 1

The Willmar Stingers hold the Rochester Honkers to one hit while putting up 20 in a 9-1 victory. he Stingers opened the game with two in the top half when Brady Schockey (USC) and Marcus Still (New Mexico State) both scored on a fielder’s choice. Shockey drove in his own run in the second from an RBI single. Josh Bissonette (Baylor) led off the third with a single and scored from a sac fly to add another for Willmar. The Stingers kept pouring it on in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles while two more came the next inning. The Honkers only hit of the game came from a Zach Zubia (Texas) solo home run in the seventh. Number nine for Willmar came in the top of the ninth when Caleb Ledbetter (Montevallo) hit a solo shot. Polo Portela (Sacramento City) made only his second start of the season, pitched six hitless innings and improved his record to 3-1.  

Lakeshore 3, Kenosha 2 (Game 2)

The Lakeshore Chinooks swept the Kenosha Kingfish today after winning both games by single runs. The Kingfish jumped on the board first in the bottom of the third when Max Widmar scored from a fielder’s choice. The Chinooks tied the game in the fifth when Caleb Dean (Lamar) hit a one out single, advanced on a wild pitch and scored from an error by the shortstop. Kenosha retook the lead in the sixth when Tim Millard (Dallas Baptist) hit an RBI single. Lakeshore ended up scoring the eventual game winner in the top of the ninth when Rylan Thomas (Central Florida) hit a two-run single. Thomas then made his first pitching appearance in the bottom half and picked up the save.

Battle Creek 4, Kalamazoo 1 (Game 2)

The Battle Creek Bombers held the Kalamazoo Growlers to only one run in the seventh in a 4-1 victory. The Bombers scored first in the second when Cody Hawken (Portland) scored after drawing a walk, stealing second and coming home from an error by the catcher. Battle Creek extended their lead to three in the third from a two-run home run by Jordan Getzelman (Menlo). The Bombers added one more in the fifth when Nikola Vasic (McHenry CC) scored from a pass ball. Kalamazoo wouldn’t go away as they got one in the seventh from a bases loaded walk. Mar Quinby (UC San Diego) then came in for the Bombers, got the final out in the inning, threw two more scoreless and earned his first save of the season.

Eau Claire 7, La Crosse 3

The Eau Claire Express built a big enough lead in the ninth inning to defeat the La Crosse Loggers 7-3 tonight. The Express scored first in the opening inning when Dominic Clementi (Michigan) hit an RBI single to left. Justin Evans (Columbus State) added three more for Eau Claire in the fourth from a three-run home run. The Loggers started to chip away at their deficit when David Villar (South Florida) scored from a sac fly in the sixth. Villar scored once more in the eighth from a double by Jeremy Ydens (UCLA) and they extended their lead in the ninth for three. La Crosse added one more in the bottom half from a bases loaded walk, Victor Chavez (Scottsdale CC) got the next guy to strike out.

Wisconsin 6, Wisconsin Rapids 4 (Game 2)

The Wisconsin Woodchucks defeated the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in both games today. The Rafters scored first for two runs in the second when Jake Guenther (Sacramento City CC) hit an RBI double and he scored from an RBI single. Rapids added one more in the third, but the Chucks responded for two in the fifth from a two-run single by Andrew Smith (LIU Brooklyn). The Rafters held a two-run lead after the fifth when Bryson Stott (UNLV) hit an RBI single. Aaron Soucy (Boston College) put Rapids ahead in the sixth with a three-run shot and added one more in the eighth for the eventual final score. Orsen Josephona (Hillsborough CC) pitched a scoreless ninth and picked up his seventh save of the season.

Fond du Lac 4, Green Bay 7 (Game 2)

The Green Bay Bullfrogs hold off a late rally by the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in the ninth to win 7-4. Both teams traded runs in the opening inning as Luke Mangieri (Bradley) hit an RBI single for the Spiders and Tanner Poole (Mississippi State) hit his own in the bottom half for the Frogs. The game went scoreless for four innings until the Bullfrogs exploded for five in the sixth. An error by the shortstop brought in the first two while Alex Pener (Scottsdale CC) hit an RBI double and he scored from a two-run single in the next at bat. Green Bay added one more in the eighth, but the Spiders wouldn’t go away in the ninth. A bases loaded walk, fielder’s choice and pass ball brought them within three, but Michael Bohlke (Bethel) came in to get the final out.

Duluth 4, Mankato 13

The Mankato MoonDogs use a seven-run eighth inning to pull away from the Duluth Huskies for a 13-4 victory. The Huskies jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second which started from an RBI single by Isaac Colins (Creighton) who scored later in the inning from another RBI single. Mankato would respond and get three back when Wells Davis (South Alabama) led off the bottom half with a single and scored on a fielder’s choice. The MoonDogs would take the lead when they put up three in the fifth. Ethan Valdez (Nicholls State) hit a single and two runs scored from an error by the right fielder. Mankato broke the game open in the eighth as they hung up seven runs. Toby Hanson (Minnesota) got the scoring going with a two-run single and later scored the seventh run of the inning. The deficit was too much for the Huskies as the MoonDogs’ bullpen threw seven scoreless to finish the game.
