Kenosha, Wis. – At the halftime of the Varsity St. Joseph Catholic Academy basketball game, the Kenosha Kingfish announced the signing of Kenosha native, Pete Schuler for the 2016 season. The freshman catcher who lettered at St. Joe’s is entering his first season at Kent State University.

Schuler, a 6’3”, 180-pound freshman will bolster the Kingfish offense this summer. Schuler had a spectacular 2014-2015 season with the Lancers. He had a .426 batting average to go along with five home runs and 25 RBIs. Schuler was ranked number one in the state of Wisconsin by Prep Baseball Report and was named 1st team to the 2015 American Baseball Coaching Association/Rawlings High School All-Region team. He was named a 2nd team All-State player by the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association as a junior at St. Joe’s.

Kingfish General Manager, Jake McGhee, is excited about the addition of Schuler to the roster, “We always love signing highly talented players, especially when they come from our hometown and a great program like St. Joe's. I have seen Pete hit many home runs while playing his high school home games at Simmons Field and hope to see many more next summer."

Schuler is the newest Kenosha native to sign with the Kingfish and looks forward to playing for his hometown: “It's going to be nice coming back home to play for Kenosha in one of the best summer collegiate baseball leagues in country. Nothing beats representing your hometown. I'm excited to meet new teammates and get after it on the field with them every day."

The Kingfish will host the 2016 Northwoods League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby at the Harbor on July 18 and 19. The Home Run Derby at the Harbor will feature NWL All-Stars launching home runs into Lake Michigan, live entertainment, kids games, ballpark food and drink and fireworks.
