Utility Man Giller Returns to Waterloo

(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks Baseball Club announced the re-signing of Michael Giller, a 6’3″, 195-pound outfielder from the University of Illinois. The junior rejoins the Bucks after a productive 2008 season and is the second player to sign with Waterloo for their 15th year of Northwoods League play.

2009 marks Giller’s third season as a member of the Bucks. In his previous two years, the Chicago, Illinois native has appeared in 118 games for Waterloo and has a career batting average of .254 with eight doubles, two home runs, and 36 RBI.

Waterloo field manager Pete Lauritson is pleased with the return of the utility man.

“Giller brings a lot of athleticism to this team and his ability to play any outfield position as well as corner infield will be utilized,” said Lauritson. “With two years of NWL experience under his belt I expect him to be a weapon from day one.”

As a sophomore at Illinois, Giller played in 24 games, starting eight, and went 11-for-46 with two doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored.

A 2006 graduate of St. Patrick High School, Giller was named All-State and All-Area by the Chicago Tribune. Giller was also tabbed as the All-East Suburban Catholic Conference Athlete of the Year.
