Creighton Pitcher Lackovic Returns to Bucks

(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks Baseball Club announced the signing of Bob Lackovic, a 6’0″, 190-pound, right-handed pitcher from Creighton University. Lackovic, a junior, is the second pitcher to be added to the Bucks 2009 staff.

Last season with the Bucks, Lackovic appeared in 28 games, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.45 ERA and 36 strikeouts. Lackovic’s 13 saves led the Bucks’ 2008 pitching staff and, for his efforts, was selected to participate in the Northwoods League All-Star game for the South Division.

Waterloo field manager Pete Lauritson is looking forward to working with Lackovic this year.

“Lackovic is a big addition to our roster. Whenever you can get a player of his caliber to return for a second season your team is in good shape,” said Lauritson. “Lackovic does a great job of throwing strikes and I am going to count on him to do the same for us again this year.”

During his sophomore year at Creighton, Lackovic developed into one of the team’s top relievers after appearing in 20 games. The Omaha, Nebraska native finished the season 2-1 with a 2.83 ERA and owned at least one strikeout in all but seven pitching appearances this season.

A 2006 graduate of Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, Lackovic was a Nebraska First Team All-State performer his senior season. Lackovic also helped lead his team to three Nebraska state championships in baseball.
