Pair of Aztecs Headed to La Crosse

(LA CROSSE, WI) The La Crosse Loggers continued their roster-building process with a pair of signings from a familiar friend in the San Diego State University program. RHP Addison Reed and OF/IF Brandon Meredith will be joining the Lumbermen for the 2009 campaign.

Sophomore Addison Reed is coming off of an all-American type freshman season in which he settled in as the Aztecs closer, compiling a 3-1 record with four saves and a 2.73 ERA. His performance during the 2008 campaign earned him Ping Baseball honorable mention freshman All-American honors and a 2009 pre-season all-MWC selection as a closer. So far, so good for the 6-3, 215 pound hurler who has saved nine of the team’s 19 victories while posting a 0.79 ERA and striking out 16 in 11.1 innings pitched.

Freshman Brandon Meredith entered San Diego State on the heels of declining an offer from the Tampa Bay Rays, who had selected him in the 15th round of the 2008 MLB Draft out of high school. A two-sport athlete in high school, Meredith also received interest to play college football from the likes of San Diego State, UCLA and USC but instead chose to stay right at home and play baseball at SDSU. Meredith is an offensive minded outfielder who has the ability to play first base, third base and catch. The San Diego native is hitting .287 with one home run and 23 RBI playing in all but one of SDSU’s 29 games this spring.
