Express Sign Three, Two From Yavapai
(EAU CLAIRE, WI) Eau Claire Express field manager Dale Varsho announced three more commitments for his 2009 roster. Iowa Central outfielder Erik Knutson returns from last year and is joined outfielder Bobby Rinard and pitcher Ian Campbell, both from Yavapai. The three sophomores bring the Express roster to 11.
Knutson played briefly for the Express in 2008, batting .357 in 42 at-bats to go along with seven stolen bases. His season ended in June due to an ankle injury. Knutson spent his freshman season with the Yavapai Roughriders, batting .320 with 13 doubles and 41 runs batted in. Knutson is hitting .226 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 19 games for the Iowa Central Tritons this spring.
Rinard is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound outfielder for the Roughriders. The native of South Bend, IN has played in all 40 games this spring; batting .387 with 33 RBI in 155 at-bats. As a freshman, Rinard batted .301 with ten doubles and six triples in 143 at-bats.
Campbell is a 6-foot-5, 205-pound pitcher at Yavapai. The right-hander has a 3-1 record with a 2.16 earned run average in 14 appearances this spring. The Glendale, AZ native pitched for Arizona Western College during his freshman year, posting a record of 5-7 with a 3.61 ERA in 72.1 innings pitched.
