CATS SIGN CANADIAN CATCHER; 3 OTHERS FOR 2009

The Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League announced today the signing of Dan Welch of North Saanich, British Columbia.  Welch is a catcher/infielder at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ.  The 6’2, 195 pound sophomore has played in 35 games this season and is batting .356 with 18 runs batted in.   

The Border Cats have added three more players to the 2009 roster, bringing the total number under contract to 21.  Catcher Aaron Munoz, first baseman Curtis Wagner and pitcher Matt Crocker have also signed with the Cats.

Munoz is a sophomore at Gateway Community College in Phoenix, AZ.  The 5’10, 175 pound native of Laveen, AZ has played in 55 games this season and is hitting .267 with 16 RBI’s. 

Wagner plays his collegiate ball at Santa Clara University in California.  The 6’0, 190 pounder is batting .226 this season for the Broncos and has knocked in 21 runs.  The sophomore hails from Manhattan Beach, CA.   

Crocker is a lefthander from Kingwood, TX.  The 6’3, 180 pound southpaw is in his sophomore season at the University of Texas-San Antonio.  Crocker has made 17 relief appearances this year and has a 3-1 record with a 3.45 earned run average.  He has struck out 33 batters in 28 2/3 innings of work.
