The Curry brother’s from Alexandria, MN will leadoff our ‘Brother’s of the NWL’ feature. Both Caleb and Cody Curry have played for their hometown Alexandria Beetles during their summers. Cody, a Southwest Minnesota standout, played for the Alexandria Beetles this year while Caleb played for the Beetles in 2006-07.
Caleb was a two-time All-American outfielder for Minnesota State Community Technical College before transferring to the University of Iowa in 2007. The speedy outfielder earned back-to-back All-Big Ten Second Team honors after hitting .396 and stealing a school-record 45 bases in his senior season. Caleb was drafted in the 14th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Cody led the Southwest Minnesota Mustangs (D-II) with a .424 batting average and was selected to the Rawlings/ABCA DII Central Region First Team in 2010. Before attending Southwest Minnesota, Cody transferred from Fergus Falls Community College where he hit .441 and was named to the All-Division team in his last season. Curry enters his final season for the Mustangs who finished tied for fourth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in 2010 and made it to the NSIC Tournament Championship game before losing to eventual D-II World Series participant Minnesota State-Mankato.
Caleb played in the San Francisco Giants organization in 2009 for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Single-A affiliate of the Giants. He had a career .246 minor league batting average with an on-base percentage of .334. Caleb currently plays for the River City Rascals of the Frontier League in O’Fallon, Missouri. He is hitting .320 with a team leading 64 hits and 25 stolen bases.
