The Big Sticks were looking to flip the script on Monday night, after falling to the Eau Claire Express the day before by a score of 15-7. Unfortunately, Badlands would have their chance of a comeback opportunity cut short thanks to a rain delay that stopped the game in the 7th inning with the Big Sticks falling 6-4.
The Big Sticks got off to a fast start, putting up two runs in the first off the bat of outfielder Connor Massimini (East Texas Baptist University), who launched a two-run bomb to left field, putting the Big Sticks up 2-0.
The Express answered in the bottom of the first, scoring a run off a sac fly RBI from second baseman Joey Flom to get the Express on the board, trailing 2-1.
Eau Claire would add another run in the bottom of the second, notching the game 2-2. The Express would continue the onslaught, putting up two more in the bottom of the third to lead 4-2 with catcher Trett Joles and outfielder Brenden Beals scoring on back-to-back walks.
Express starting pitcher Walker Retz had a pretty solid outing on the mound, posting a 3.27 ERA, 4 ER, 6 H, 10 K, 0 BB, in six innings of work.
Badlands, on the other hand, struggled on the mound with starting pitcher James Breen (University of Charleston (WV)) surrendering a 13.5 ERA, 3 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 6 BB, in two innings pitched. Along with Adam Wade (Alvin CC), giving up a 5.40 ERA, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 3 BB in three innings pitched.
Both teams would add a pair of runs in the fourth to make the score 6-4. The Express would hold on to win as a rain delay in the top of the seventh inning would forfeit the rest of the game.
It was no doubt a tough break for the Big Sticks not being able to finish the game. However, they have an opportunity to get back into the win column as they continue their road stand next playing a series against the Willmar Stingers.
