DICKINSON, ND – The Badlands Big Sticks (10-10) trailed from the beginning and the Mankato MoonDogs (9-12) dominated with their unstoppable power source leading to a 17-6 score on Tuesday night.
In the 2nd inning, three home runs by the Mankato MoonDogs began the surge. Kaleb Wilkey, and Evan Rolbiecki hit solo shots while Max Charles hit a two-run shot to start the scoring 4-0.
The MoonDogs piled it on in the 4th inning, scoring seven in multiple fashions. Charles sent his second home run over to start the action, then Rolbiecki scored on a wild pitch. A walk by Wilkey put across another to make it 7-0. Liam Ebbs smoked a double, clearing the bases and putting three more on the board which led to 11-0 lead.
The bottom of the 4th gave life to Badlands as a double by Alejandro Luderio (UCF) put the first run on the board. One batter later, John Youens (Baylor) hit a three-run home run to right, putting three on the board to make it 11-4.
A double play scored another run for MoonDogs in the top of 5th, but the Big Sticks responded with a solo home run by Jackson Ellison (Liberty) at 12-5 in the bottom of the 5th.
In the 7th inning, Cooper Rasmussen (FIU) sent one over the wall in right field, which would be the last run scored for the Big Sticks at 12-6.
Mankato stuck to it, and put four more in the top of the 8th inning on a hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a two-run double by Drew McConnell. The MoonDogs tailed their 5th home run of the game in the 9th by Jack Mislan, finalizing the score at 17-6.
The Big Sticks look to reverse their fortunes with a road trip to Minnesota to play the Wilmar Stingers on Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. MST.
