Tonight the Bombers were shutout in the first game of the series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The final score was Woodchucks, six and the Bombers, zero.
Scoring started in the top of the fifth inning for the ‘Chucks. Kendall Thamm started off on the mound for the Bombers. He walked three batters to load up the bases. Patrick Terry came up to bat and was walked which scored a run for the Woodchucks, giving them a one run lead.
After the first batter was walked in the sixth, Dan Holcomb came in to pitch for the Bombers. Robbie De La Cruz tried to lay down a small sacrifice bunt for the Woodchucks but that was turned into a bunt single to score a run. Sharif Othman was put on by a walk earlier and scored when Rob Lind hit a double into left field.
The Woodchucks go two more runs in the eighth inning at make the score five to nothing. Kevin Pillar started off with a hit. Pillar made it to second on a stolen base and then advanced on an error by the catcher. Othman was able to score on an unassisted groundout to first base.
In the last inning of play De La Cruz hit in Travis Whitmore on an RBI single. That put the Woodchucks up 6-0.
Thamm pitched five innings with two runs scored off of two hits and had three strikeouts. Don Lisi threw eight innings for the ‘Chucks giving up four hits and striking out seven.
Four of The Bombers players were able to get hits on the night. The Woodchucks had six runs off of 10 hits and two errors.
Tomorrow night the Bombers and Woodchucks will finish up the two game series in Battle Creek. It will be Taco Bell Tuesday. They will then go on the road to Madison for two games and to Eau Claire for three. The Bombers will be back home July 22 for our second Thirsty Thursday of the season against the Waterloo Bucks.
