The Bombers finished off the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 10-6 on Sunday afternoon to complete their first sweep of the 2011 season.
After giving up a lead in Saturday night’s extra-innings contest, the Rafters scored early, and Josh Seer knocked a solo homer in the second inning. The Bombers struck back in the next half inning, when Jordan Dean and Dan Dispensa put up back-to-back RBIs and gave Battle Creek the lead. They scored again in the fourth when Daniel Rocket, after sitting out Saturday, smashed a single into right field and brought home Bryce Redeker. Rocket went 3-4 with 2 RBI in the win.
The Bombers extended their lead in the sixth when Matt Hitt, Troy White, and Ryne Otis all scored. However, the Rafters battled back and scored pairs of runs in the seventh and eight, but it wasn’t enough, because the Bombers did the same in eighth and ninth.
Ben Ballantine picked up his first win in the victory, tossing five innings and surrendering just three hits and a run, while walking four and fanning five.
The Bombers now travel to Green Bay, WI, for a three-game series with the Green Bay Bullfrogs starting tomorrow night at 7:35pm eastern. Fans can hear the live Bombers broadcast on www.battlecreekbombers.com, with Greg Talbott calling the action.
