The Bombers took their first loss of the 2011 campaign tonight in a late-game heartbreaker to the Waterloo Bucks, 4-3, at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek.

The Bucks jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when Jeremy Hill scored on a passed ball, and brought a pair across in the fourth when Jordan Adams doubled and Matt Reistetter singled back-to-back, bringing the score to 3-0.

The Bombers fought back in the fifth when Ryne Otis scored on Jordan Dean’s RBI single, his first of the season. They scored again in the sixth when Jimmy Martinez scored from third base on Matt Hitt’s 5-4-3 double-play. Hitt again came through in the clutch in the eighth when he singled to once again score Martinez.

But in the top of the ninth, the Bucks sent Adams to the plate, who doubled, and scored on a deep fly ball to center by Drew Walsh. Brett Wiley reached second base for the Bombers in the home half, but would never score.

Chad Jasman tossed three impressive innings, striking out four, before he surrendered two runs in the fourth inning. Troy Forton was solid in relief until he gave up the losing run in the eighth.

Battle Creek’s record now stands at 2-1, and they head on the road tomorrow morning for their first road trip of 2011, facing off against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a pair of games, and finishing up with a trio at Green Bay.
