The Bombers are pleased to announce that University of Evansville infielder Brett Wiley has committed to Battle Creek for the 2011 summer season. Wiley is the fourth player from the Hoosier State to join the club.
“Brett is another regional player from the area that we think will not only be great here in Battle Creek this summer, but hopefully for a couple years down the road as well,” said Bombers GM Brian Colopy.
Brett Wiley: 5’11-175, L/R, SS/2B, Univ. of Evansville (Fr.), Huntington, IN.
Wiley is in his first season with the Purple Aces after playing high school baseball at Huntington North, where he set the school RBI record in his three years at the varsity level. Wiley will be close to home this summer, since Huntington is just two hours south of Battle Creek. This season in Evansville, he is hitting.227 with a pair of RBIs, two walks, and has an on-base percentage of .320%.
Good numbers is clearly something he works with: after graduating, Wiley wants to become a financial advisor, though he is yet to declare a major.
“He’s an old school type of player with his work ethic and demeanor. He is a tremendous athlete who can run, swing it, and play wherever you ask him to play. His best ball is definitely in front of him and we are looking forward to working with him this summer”, said Bombers Hitting Coach Thad Frame.
The Bombers are set to begin their 5th season on June 1, 2011 in the Prestigious Northwoods League. For tickets, fans can call (269)962-0735 or visit www.BattleCreekBombers.com.
