The Bombers won in typical dramatic fashion Thursday night at C.O. Brown Stadium, taking the first of a two-game series from the Wisconsin Woodchucks 6-4 after five straight games on the road.
The Woodchucks scored on a careless overthrow pickoff by Bombers starting pitcher Chad Jasman in the first, but Battle Creek hit back in the home half when Ryne Otis slammed line drive into right field, bringing home Dan Dispensa from second base tying the game 1-1. The ‘Chucks then scored two unanswered runs, but in the third, the Bombers pounced and scored four runs: Jimmy Martinez, Brendan Norton, Dispensa, and Otis all scored, giving Battle Creek their first lead.
Wisconsin almost came back in the seventh when their second baseman, Shane Stoner, slapped an RBI single into the outfield, but Battle Creek put the game away an inning later when Dispensa picked up his third RBI of the game, once again scoring Norton.
Jasman picked up his first win of the season, going three innings and surrendering three runs and five hits, while Kristian Calibuso earned his team-leading third save.
The Bombers look to sweep the Woodchucks tomorrow night at 7:05pm at C.O. Brown Stadium, and win their fourth consecutive series of 2011. Fans can watch the live video broadcast on www.battlecreekbombers.com and www.nwltickets.com, with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
