The Bombers pulled out a 2-1 win over the Madison Mallards on Saturday night, extending their Southern Division lead to 1.5 games.

The Mallards scored in the top of the first when Zac Zellers came home on a groundout by third baseman Justin Scanlon. The Bombers struck back in the second when Danny Rocket came home on an overthrow by Madison catcher Tyler Jones, and the game remained tied until the seventh, when Mallards first baseman Jumpy Garcia thought there were two outs, when there was only one, and tagged first base while Brett Wiley scored from third for the Bombers. The Mallards could not make up for the mental error later in the game.

Joe Battistelli threw six solid innings as the starter and only surrendered one run and three hits. Alex Tukey picked up his first win of 2011, while Kristian Calibuso notched his fourth save with two runners on-base in the ninth.

The Bombers haven’t lost a series all of 2011, and look to continue the streak tomorrow night against the Mallards in their first Sunday home-game of the season with a special 5:05pm start time. Fans can catch the game live on the Bombers video webcast at www.battlecreekbombers.com and www.northwoodsleague.com, with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
