The Bombers pulled out yet another comeback victory last night at C.O. Brown Stadium, a 4-2 win over the Madison Mallards, extending their streak: the Bombers have not lost a series in 2011 as of yet.
Battle Creek scored in the second on a Ryne Otis leadoff homerun into left field, and the Mallards struck back in the fourth with a pair of runs off a Tyler Jones single. The score would remain 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh, when Matt Hitt, Brett Wiley scored for the Bombers. Alex Robinson walked, bringing home Hitt, while Wiley was brought around on a Danny Rockett sacrifice fly, which was followed by a Jimmy Martinez RBI single.
In typical dramatic fashion, the Bombers almost gave the game away. In the ninth, Ryan Halstead made his second appearance of the season and loaded the bases on the first three batters. But he then struck out Jumpy Garcia, and forced the next hitter to ground into a 1-2-3 double-play, securing the save credit.
Troy Forton picked up the win for Battle Creek, throwing seven strong innings while allowing just two runs, and Scott Mariner pitched the eight.
The Bombers now head on the road for six games, two each against the La Crosse Loggers, Eau Claire Express, and Waterloo Bucks. Fans can hear the live broadcasts online at www.battlecreekbombers.com with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
