The Madison Mallards evened up the series with the Bombers Sunday evening in Battle Creek, smoking the Bombers 11-1.
The Bombes jumped on the board first, when Ryne Otis brought home Danny Rocket on an RBI single in the first inning. The Mallards pitching staff held the Bombers scoreless for the rest of the night. Five different players recorded RBIs for the Mallards, most notably shortstop Michael Handel who brought around three.
Matt Dearden made his third start of 2011 for the Bombers, going five innings while allowing five runs and five hits, walking and striking out two. Battle Creek used a new relief pitcher every inning from then on, with John Morrison, Tyler Thicke, Mitch Bowers, and Scott Simmons seeing mound time.
With the series 1-1, the Bombers are only a half-game ahead of the Mallards entering tomorrow night’s finale. Fans can watch the game live in video on www.battlecreekbombers.com and www.nwltickets.com, with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
