The Bombers gave up three runs in the eighth inning to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and couldn’t recover, dropping the series’ first game 3-2 at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek. It is just Wisconsin Rapids’ fifth win of the season.

The Bombers scored their pair of runs in the third inning when Troy White walked with the bases loaded, and Bryce Redeker followed with an RBI single, bringing home Brendan Norton from third base. They would be scoreless thereafter. The Rafters brought in three in the eighth when Scott Mariner faltered in relief. Battle Creek was sent down in order in the following at-bats.

Ben Ballantine had another great start at home, tossing six scoreless innings while striking out seven and giving up just three hits. Mariner received the loss credit, and Ryan Halstead threw in late-relief.

The series continues tomorrow night at C.O. Brown Stadium, first pitch at 7:05 for game two. Fans can see the game live online on www.battlecreekbombers.com and www.northwoodsleague.com, with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
