The Bombers split their first day of doubleheaders with the Eau Claire Express at Carson Park on Thursday. The Express downed the Bombers 6-5 in game one, and Battle Creek securely won game two 5-1.
In the first of two seven-inning games, the Bomb Squad took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but the Express pounced with a run in the home half, before surging back in the bottom of the seventh and took advantage of Alex Tukey’s fatigue on the hill and brought home three runs, including a walk-off single from Ben Kincaid. At the dish, Brett Wiley put together three of Battle Creek’s nine hits.
Clearly motivated by grasping defeat from the jaws of victory 30 minutes earlier, the Bombers lit up Eau Claire 5-0 before the Express put a run on the board in the seventh, despite only rallying for six hits. John Morrison was the star for Battle Creek, throwing a complete game two-hitter.
Games three and four of the series begin Friday at 5pm.
