Bombers’ Right-Hander Tabbed #1 by Perfect Game USA and Baseball America
(ROCHESTER, MN) Battle Creek Bombers right-handed pitcher Nolan Sanburn (Arkansas) was ranked as the top prospect in the Northwoods League this summer by both “Perfect Game USA” and “Baseball America”, who recently announced their annual prospect rankings. Perfect Game ranked the Top 75 prospects from the Northwoods League while Baseball America ranked the Top 20 prospects from this past season in the NWL.
Sanburn is entering his sophomore year at Arkansas. This summer for the Bombers he appeared in six games, throwing 19 1/3 innings, striking out 24 and walking nine. The 20-year-old was 0-1 with a 2.33 ERA. Scouts like his low 90s fastball that has been clocked as high as 98.
La Crosse Loggers’ catcher Andrew Knapp (California) and Mankato MoonDogs’ pitcher Sam Selman (Vanderbilt) ranked in the Top 5 of both lists. Knapp, a switch-hitting catcher, hit exactly .400 this season for the Loggers, becoming just the second player in Northwoods League history to reach that threshold. Selman, in his second season with the MoonDogs, continued to show promise by throwing 90+ MPH from the left side. He struck out 46 batters in 42 innings.
