Kalamazoo, Mich.- The Bombers could not get it going at Homer Stryker Field as the Growlers won the Sunday afternoon matchup, 13-3.
Kalamazoo had two big innings that were the difference in the game against the Bombers. They scored five runs in both the third and eighth inning, including a grand slam and a three run shot.
"Guys aren't playing hard for nine innings. They would lock in for three then give up their at bats early or late in the game," Coach Jimmy Correnti said.
He added, "the biggest thing about this league is you have to play a hard nine every single day."
Offensively, the Bombers did gather nine hits as a team and Colby Bortles (Ole Miss) had two RBIs for Battle Creek.
Spencer Thornton (San Diego St.) had a big swing in the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run, his first of the season.
Battle Creek is now on break for three days for All-Star festivities up in Mequon, Wisconsin. Jacob Waguespack and Dakota Mekkes will represent the Bombers for the South Division.
The Bombsquad will hope to get back on track after the break as they head to Rochester for a two game inter-league series. The first pitch on Thursday, July 24 will be 8:05 ET.
