Rochester, Minn. — The Battle Creek Bombers kicked off their second round of interleague play with a road trip up to Rochester, Minnesota, home of the Honkers. The Honkers, who the Bombers swept at home in the second week of June, got the better of the Bombers in game one of the two game series winning in comeback fashion, 10-5.
Joe Mockbee (Michigan State) got the start for the Bombsquad and was very effective on the mound switching up his pitches which kept the Honkers off-balance during his six innings of work. Joe saw just one run come across the plate, which was unearned, while striking out five.
The Bombers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first and were able to tack on one more in the third.
The Honkers plated one run in the sixth but it would not be until the bottom of the seventh that their bats came to life.
The Honkers strung together six hits and were able to drive in 8 runs in the bottom half of the seventh, giving them a 9-3 lead over the Bombers.
Matt Dacey (Richmond) hit a 2-run shot in the top of the eighth to bring the the deficit to four.
The Honkers responded by scoring one more run to make it 10-5 which is where the game stood at its finish.
The Bombers will try to spilt the series tomorrow, 7:05 Central Time first pitch.
