Battle Creek, Mich. – Bombers closer Mason Marshall (BYU) has been added to the Northwoods League's Big League Dreams Showcase, which will be hosted by the Madison Mallards on August 4.

Marshall, a rising junior at BYU, has been the Bombers closer since he arrived to Battle Creek. The 2012 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American has a 2-1 record and has compiled a 2.81 ERA in the Northwoods League this season, while converting on six of his nine save opportunities. In 25 2-3 innings pitched, he has struck out 34 and walked just nine, while allowing 23 hits.

During Battle Creek's six-game win streak, Marshall saved two games, both against Kalamazoo. Against the Growlers on July 30, the right-hander entered the game with the tying run at the plate and one out in the eighth. He was able to escape the situation by forcing a bouncer right back to him and a pop out to short. Then, the next day, Marshall saved game one of the doubleheader, allowing one unearned run and striking out two.

The annual Showcase will consist of a doubleheader featuring the top players from the Northwoods League who were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball Scouts. The players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts, which will be followed by the doubleheader.

Battle Creek’s representatives will be on game two’s visiting team roster along with players from Alexandria, Wisconsin Rapids, and Green Bay. They will be opposing a team made up of selections from Madison, Lakeshore, Kenosha and Wisconsin. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Central time.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northwoods League Foundation. The Northwoods League Foundation utilizes the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families with an enduring and caring focus on Northwoods League communities.

Tickets for the event can still be purchased and are available at mallardsbaseball.com.
