The Battle Creek Bombers defeated the Rockford Rivets 10-3 Wednesday night at Rockford, increasing their overall record to 9-7.
Third baseman Jarrod Watkins led off the game for Battle Creek with a walk. Nick Podkul followed with a single, advancing Watkins to third base. Daniel Jipping grounded into a double play, but Watkins scored on the play, giving the Bombers the early 1-0 lead.
The Rivets came back in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one, but the Bombers bats erupted in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Eric Gilgenbach worked a walk, scoring Chad McKinney. Ryan Dorow scored on a passed ball, and the Bombers took the 3-1 lead. Truman Brown hit a sacrifice fly and Jarrod Watkins followed with a triple. With the Bombers up 5-1, Nick Podkul hit a sacrifice fly, and the Bombers led 6-1 after two innings.
Jarrod Watkins led off the sixth inning by getting hit by a pitch. Nick Podkul followed with a single, and Daniel Jipping hit his fifth homerun of the year, giving the Bombers the 9-1 lead.
The Rivets tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, cutting the Bombers lead to 9-3.
In the eighth inning, Jarrod Watkins singled home Truman Brown, giving the Bombers their tenth and final run of the game.
Tommy Parsons went 6.1 innings for the Bombers. He allowed three runs on two hits. Parsons walked three Rivets batters, and he struck out nine batters in his third start of the year. He struck out the side in the sixth inning, and there was a span when he struck out five in a row and six out of seven.
The Bombers now travel to Madison to take on the Mallards starting Thursday night at 8:05/7:05 Central.
