The Bombers dropped the finale of their road trip to the Madison Mallards 10-2 Friday night in Madison. The Bombers finished their eight-game road trip with a 3-5 record, and their overall record drops to 9-9.
With the Bombers down 1-0, second baseman Christian Helsel led off the second inning with a single. Helsel advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Nick Podkul grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Helsel advanced to third. With two outs in the inning, a wild pitch by Frank German scored Helsel, and the Bombers tied the game at 1.
The Bombers pitchers struggled against Madison. Chi-Ping Wu went 1.2 innings in his third start of the year. He allowed three runs and allowed three walks. Although the pitching staff struggled, Kaleb McCurry pitched two scoreless innings for the Bombers in relief.
With the Bombers trailing 10-1 in the eighth, the Bombers were able to get the bases loaded. Jarrod Watkins led off the inning with a walk. Nick Piorier and Daniel Jipping followed with singles. After Christian Helsel struck out, Kevin Dupree was hit by a pitch, scoring Watkins and giving the Bombers their second run on the evening. Nick Podkul flew out to right field, but Nick Piorier left third base too early, and was called out.
The Bombers head back to Battle Creek to take on the Rockford Rivets Saturday night at 6:05. The game Saturday night with be the team’s tenth anniversary celebration.
