The Battle Creek Bombers defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 7-5 Friday night in Kenosha, sweeping the two-game series. With the win, the Bombers improved their overall record to 17-15, and they finish the road trip at 3-3.
The Bombers got on the board in the fifth inning. First baseman Kevin Dupree led off with a triple to left field. Third baseman Ryan Dorow flew out to center field, allowing Dupree to score, giving the Bombers the 1-0 lead.
The Bombers tacked on two runs in the sixth inning. Second baseman Jarrod Watkins led off the inning with a single. After Dean Miller struck out, left fielder Daniel Jipping hit a double, scoring Watkins. Catcher Jacob Blunt followed with a single and advanced to second base on an error. Jipping scored on the play, giving the Bombers the 3-0 lead.
With the Bombers leading 3-1 in the seventh inning, right fielder Cody Sporrer worked a one-out walk. Shortstop Daniel Patzlaff followed with a single, advancing Sporrer over to third base. Jarrod Watkins dropped a sacrifice bunt, allowing Sporrer to score. With one out, Dean Miller reached on a walk. Daniel Jipping followed by hitting a homerun over the left field wall, giving the Bombers the 7-1 lead.
The Kingfish were able to cut the Bombers’ lead to 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh, but Krystien Johnson-Battilana worked out of a jam. Bombers starting pitcher Jordan Horak picked up his fourth win of the season. Horak did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, and he allowed four runs, three earned, on just one hit in his outing.
The Bombers return home to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks for a two-game stint, starting Saturday night at 6:05.
