The Battle Creek Bombers defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers 2-0 Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium. The Bombers sweep the home-and-home doubleheader and win the I-94 Rivalry Cup by winning six out of eight games against the Growlers in 2016. With the win, the Bombers improve to 31-28 on the year and 13-10 in the second half of the season.

After two scoreless innings, left fielder Daniel Jipping led off the third with a single and then stole second base. Jipping would make it to third base on a wild pitch. After catcher Jacob Blunt walked, second baseman Cody Sporrer grounded into a double play. Jipping scored on the out to give the Bombers the 1-0 lead.

The Bombers went on to add an insurance run. Daniel Jipping led off the seventh inning by hitting a homerun over the left field wall to give the Bombers the 2-0 lead, which would be the final result.

Chi-Ping Wu picked up his first win of the season in his best start of the year for Battle Creek. He pitched 7.1 innings of four-hit baseball. He allowed one walk and struck out a season-high six batters. Wu’s victory is extra special since it came on his 20th birthday. Colton Bradley came on to relieve Wu and struck out four batters in 1.2 innings.

The Bombers now hit the road for their longest trip of the year. The eight-game, nine-day road trip begins with a two-game stint in Mankato against the Moondogs, which begins Tuesday night at 8:05/7:05 Central.
