Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers faced the top team in the Northwoods League for the first time, dropping game one 4-0 to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The Bombers (14-10) had chances to put up runs, but were unsuccessful stranding 10 runners on base.  BC would record six hits on the night, all of them coming from a different Bombers player.

BC had a big opportunity in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and only down two runs, but would come up empty.

The shutout is the first this season for Battle Creek offensively.

The Rapids Rafters (20-4) jumped on the board first in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back.  They would scratch another run in the sixth, as they added two insurance runs in the eighth.

Tommy Parsons (Adrian) made his fourth start for Battle Creek, dropping his first game of the summers as his record now sits at 3-1.  Parsons lasted 7.0 innings as he allowed just two runs on eight hits.

Rapids Rafters starter Jesse Slinger (Youngstown State) would give up no runs on five hits.  Slinger improved his record to a perfect 4-0 through his first four starts.

Battle Creek is now 4-6 over their last 10 games, as they also drop their home record to 7-6.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow night in Battle Creek.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET from C.O. Brown Stadium.  The Rapids will go with left-hander Jack Eagan (Madison College) and Battle Creek will throw right-hander Christian Griffin (West Alabama).

Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 6:55 p.m. ET.
