Rockford, Ill. – The Battle Creek Bombers would for the fourth time beat the Rockford Rivets by one run as they held on for a 3-2 victory Monday night at Rivets Stadium.

The Bombers (16-11) got a quality start from Trent Johnson (Tulane University) as he lasted 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits.

Johnson would improve to 2-0 on the summer; his second straight win in his last two starts.

The Rivets (15-12) tried to battle back in the ninth, as they got a run on an RBI from Trevor Paradoski (Texas Tech).

With two-outs and runners on first and second, Tim Nelson (UC San Diego) was able to get Zach Rheams (Texas Tech) to strike out swinging.  Nelson recorded his first save of the summer, giving up one run on two hits.

The Bombers gloves also put on a display, most notably in the fifth inning when they turned a 3-6 triple play.

BC only scratched six hits on the night, two less than Rockford but they were able to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

They would strike first in the second inning on an RBI-double from Nick Walker (Austin Peay State University), his 11th RBI of the season.

JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) would drive in a run in the fourth on a fielder’s choice.  His Virginia Tech teammate Tom Stoffel would follow him up in the fifth, as he drove in the Bombers final run on a fielders choice.

Alex Smith (University of Memphis) went 1.0 inning out of the pen, giving up no runs on no-hits.

BC outfielder Jordan Getzelman (Menlo College) went 2-4 scoring two runs.

Battle Creek and Rockford will continue in a four game series, as games three and four will take place in southwest Michigan.  Andrew Click (Davenport University) will be the scheduled starter for tomorrow night’s game.

Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 6:55 p.m. ET.
