Battle Creek, Mich. – With a tie ball game in the eighth inning the Bombers would take the lead on a balk with the bases loaded, resulting in a 3-2 Bombers victory over Wisconsin.
Cody Hawken (University of Portland) swung and miss at a 2-2 pitch with two-outs and the bases loaded in the eighth. What looked like strike three was instead ruled a balk on the Woodchucks Gwizdala Lenny.
BC (20-14) was able to gain the lead in the eighth thanks to Cody Hawken (University of Portland) and Mark Quinby (UC San Diego). Hawken would load the bases in the top half of the inning, as he was able to then record the first out. Quinby would then retire the next two batters on strikeouts to get out of the bases loaded jam.
Battle Creek trailed until the sixth inning, as they would score two runs to tie the game. JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) would drive in the first run with an RBI-single. Nick Walker (Austin Peay State University) would follow him with an RBI-single to tie that game.
Bombers starter Tyler Garam (Greensboro College) made his first start in a BC jersey, as he lasted 4.0 innings allowing one run on one hit.
Hawken was solid through 3.1, as he gave up one run on six hits. Quinby followed him by going 1.2 innings, as he picked up his first win of the season.
Alex Howard (Arkansas State University) continued his stellar play offensively, going 2-4 for his fifth straight multi-hit game. He currently leads the league in batting average as he is hitting .380 through his first 23 games.
Both Justin Felix (Arkansas State University) and Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) would end the night going 1-4.
The Bombers moved their record to 3-0 against the Woodchucks (14-20).
Game two of the six-game home stand starts tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. ET. BC will go for their second sweep against the Woodchucks, and their seventh series sweep of the season.
Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 6:55 p.m. ET.
