Battle Creek, MI–The Battle Jacks were looking for their first three game win streak since June 9. Rain held up the start of the game, but not for all of it. The game was suspended in the bottom of the 4th inning as the Battle Jacks led 6-0.
The offense took longer to score than yesterday. Today they waited until the 2nd inning to do the scoring and when they did it was an explosion. Aaron Dolney started the inning with a leadoff walk, which was then followed by the next six hitters reaching base. Joey Grabanski hit a ground rule double to follow up the Dolney walk. Had the ball stayed in play it likely would have scored Dolney. It didn’t matter as the next hitter, Dillon Kark, corked a ball to left center field scoring both of them. Brycen Sherwood followed up with a base on balls and then Isaiah Gibbs singled to load the bases. Robbie Merced had an RBI hit by pitch to score Kark. Sherwood scored run number five of the inning on a passed ball. That was followed by a Charlie Rhee RBI single. The Battle Jacks scored six in the inning, their second time in as many games.
Garrett Martin was fantastic on the mound, allowing no more than one base runner in any inning. He struck out 5 in 4.0 innings of work, only allowing three hits.
In the bottom of the 4th with two outs and an 0-1 count on Billy Hancock, the game was suspended. It later ended up being postponed with the makeup date scheduled for August 4th.
However, the Battle Jacks stay at home for a game tomorrow against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders. It’ll be the first matchup between the two teams this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
