BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Battle Creek Battle Jacks were unable to keep the momentum of the series sweep and lost to the Royal Oak Leprechauns 6-2 on Wednesday.
The bats got going early on both sides, as Royal Oak jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.
The Battle Jacks responded in the bottom half of the first, as Brendan Thompson’s two run home-run cuts the lead to one.
Royal Oak took a two-run lead in the fourth off Owen Turner’s RBI double, scoring Noah Brocklebank.
The Leprechauns built on their lead in the fifth, regaining their three-run lead as they scored on a passed ball.
The Leprechauns extended the lead to four in the seventh inning off Jack Dauer’s single to center field.
The Battle Jacks loaded the bases in the eighth inning but were unable to capitalize as they were trailing 6-2 heading into the ninth inning.
The game hit a weather delay in the bottom of the ninth as the Battle Jacks had two runners in scoring position sitting on second and third.
Due to the circumstances of the field, the game was unable to come to an end as the Battle Jacks lost 6-2.
The Battle Jacks are set to hit the road for a four-game road trip as they face off against Royal Oak Leprechauns for a one-game set, followed by a two-game set against the Kenosha Kingfish, and back to Royal Oak for a one-game set.
