BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Battle Jacks had a disappointing outing on Tuesday, losing 29-8, as they trail in the I-94 Rivalry Cup 5-2.
The first inning saw the Growlers explode for offence as Keagan Kohlhoff couldn’t seem to find the strike zone before giving up six runs and being pulled from the contest.
Bryce Ewing limited the damage for the remainder of the inning as he gave up one earned run as they headed into the bottom half of the inning down 7-0.
The bottom half of the first inning saw the bats stay hot as the Battle Jacks batted in six runs, with RBIs from Brady LaViolette, Gehrig Goldbeck, Jake Stedman, and Owen Larrigan, narrowing the lead down to 7-6.
The second inning saw the Growlers continue their offensive surge, scoring four more runs to take a 11-6 lead as Bryce Ewing was pulled for Dylan Keelan during the middle stages of the inning.
They continued their push as they added another run, taking a commanding 12-6 lead through three innings of play at MCCU Field.
The Battle Jacks struck back in the fourth inning, keeping the matchup close as they added two runs, making it 12-8.
The Growlers took control of the game in the fifth inning scoring eight runs, including a grand slam to take a 20-8 lead as the Battle Jacks look to get things back in the right direction.
The top of the seventh inning saw the Growlers continue to push the pace of the game scoring six runs to take a 26-8 lead.
The Growlers added their runs in the top of the ninth as they took a 29-8 lead, as the Battle Jacks were holding onto any hope.
