BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Battle Creek Battle Jacks take the series opener on Monday at MCCU Field 11-10 against the Richmond Flying Mummies.

The Flying Mummies got off to a hot start at MCCU Field, taking a 2-0 lead early in the contest.

They added to that lead in the second, scoring three runs to take an early 5-0 lead;

However, the Battle Jacks responded, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the third, highlighted by a three-RBI triple from Dayne Wimberly, and a single from Jonny Marquez tied the game 5-5. 

Richmond restored the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 9-6 lead before the Battle Jacks responded in the bottom half of the inning, closing the lead to two with four innings to play.

The Battle Jacks came firing in the seventh, scoring four runs, to take an 11-9 lead off an RBI walk from Payton Bookwalter and Thomas Cooper’s single. 

Richmond struck back in the eighth inning, cutting the lead down to one as the Battle Jacks led heading into the bottom half of the inning, 11-10.

The Battle Jacks are back in action on Tuesday for the second game of the series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
