BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Battle Creek Battle Jacks swept the Richmond Flying Mummies on Tuesday, winning 5-1, backed by a strong pitching performance.

This game proved to be a pitching duel from the start, as both starting pitchers were strong from the very beginning.

Strong defensive efforts kept the game scoreless as both teams combined for two hits through four innings of play at MCCU Field.

The fifth inning saw the first bit of offence as the Battle Jacks struck to take a 1-0 lead off Jake Stedman’s RBI single, scoring Jacob Schott.

The Flying Mummies responded in the top half of the sixth inning, tying the game at one as Prince Deboskie scored off a sacrifice fly from Cal Schembra.

The Battle Jacks exploded for offence in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead, highlighted by Brendan Thompson’s bases-clearing double.

The Battle Jacks continued the strong pitching as they held the Flying Mummies to just one run and five hits.

Battle Creek ended the night with five runs, seven hits, and two errors.

The Battle Jacks are back in action on Wednesday as they close out their five-game homestand against the Royal Oak Leprechauns, before hitting the road for a four game road trip.
