Battle Jacks Drop Both During Doubleheader Against Pit Spitters

BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Battle Creek Battle Jacks got swept in their doubleheader against the Traverse City Pit Spitters, as they look to even the series on Thursday during the series finale.

Game One

The Pit Spitters came firing right out of the gates, scoring five runs in the second inning to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Battle Jacks struck back in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring one run off an RBI from Jonny Marquez, making it a 5-1 game.

Battle Creek added two runs to their total in the third inning, cutting the lead down to 5-4, as they trailed by one heading into the fourth inning.

The fourth inning saw the Battle Jacks take the lead for the first time in the contest, exploding for three runs to take a 6-5 lead.

The Battle Jacks added to their lead in the fifth inning, taking a 7-5 advantage; however, the lead was short-lived as the Pit Spitters fired back with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, as they regained the lead, winning 9-7.

Traverse City kept the pedal down, adding insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings as they took a 12-9 lead.

Game Two

Both teams scored in the first inning, as the Traverse City scored off an RBI sacrifice fly, while a homerun from Brendan Thompson tied the game at one’s.

The Pit Spitters gained the lead in the third off an RBI sacrifice fly from Cade Collins, heading into the bottom half of the third the inning 2-1.

Traverse City extended their lead in the fifth inning adding another run to take a 3-1 lead.

The offence went quiet on both ends as no team scored until the eight inning where the Pit Spitters took a commanding 4-1 lead off a sacrifice fly.

Traverse City added to their lead in the ninth inning scoring three runs to take a 7-1 lead, heading into the bottom of the ninth with the Battle Jacks needing a comeback.

The Battle Jacks threatened in the bottom half of the ninth, but were unable to mount a comeback.

The Battle Jacks are back in action on Thursday as they close out their four game set against the Traverse City Pit Spitters looking to split the series.
