BATTLE CREEK, MI —
Game One
The Battle Jacks and Rockford Rivets resumed the game from July 5th. The Rivets led in the first inning 3-0 when the game started.
The Battle Jacks struck back in the third inning, scoring two runs to cut the lead down to one; however, the Rivets came firing back, scoring four during the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.
But the Battle Jacks fought back, scoring three runs the very next inning off RBI’s from Jake Stedman and Gehrig Goldbeck as they trailed 7-4 heading into the bottom half of the bottom of the fourth.
The offence kept on coming for the Battle Jacks as they scored two runs to tie the game at seven.
The offence then went quiet as both teams didn’t score until the ninth inning, where the Battle Jacks took their first lead of the game, scoring two runs to take a 9-7 lead with three outs remaining for the Battle Jacks’ comeback.
The Rivets added a run as they threatened to send the game to extra innings; however, it was not enough as the Battle Jacks held on for the 9-8 win.
Game Two
The offence kept on rolling for the Battle Jacks in the second game of the double header as they scored eight runs to secure an 8-4 win.
The Rivets; however, struck first scoring three runs in the third inning, but the Battle Jacks responded with two runs of their own, with a two-run homerun from Brendan Thompson.
The fifth inning saw the Battle Jacks explode for their biggest offence breakout of the day scoring five runs off RBI’s from AJ Lucas, Gehrig Goldbeck, Jonny Marquez, and Jacob Schott, as they lead 7-3.
The sixth inning saw both teams add another run, as the Battle Jacks took an 8-4 lead.
With three outs remaining for the Battle Jacks to secure the win Jackson Phelps closed the door.
The Battle Jacks are back in action on Saturday as it is Margaritaville Night at MCCU Field as we take on the Rockford Rivets with first pitched scheduled for 7:05 pm.
