BATTLE CREEK, MI — The Kalamazoo Growlers swept the Battle Creek Battle Jacks during their two-game series, concluding on Sunday with a 6-4 victory.
The Growlers got on the board early on Sunday evening, taking a 1-0 lead off an RBI single from DeMir Heidelberg.
The third inning proved to be the difference-maker in the contest, as the Growlers jumped out and scored four runs to take a commanding 5-0 lead, which proved to be too difficult a task for the Battle Jacks to come back.
Battle Creek got on the board in the fourth inning, cutting the lead down to three off an RBI double from Owen Larrigan.
The Battle Jacks continued to fight their way back in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to make it a one-run ball game, highlighted by RBI’s from AJ Lucas, Thomas Cooper, and Dayne Wimberly.
Kalamazoo added an insurance run in the ninth inning, scoring off a single from DeMir Heidelberg, making it his second RBI of the game.
The Battle Jacks are set to hit the road on Monday, heading to Kenosha for a two-game set with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 pm EST.
