The Battle Creek Bombers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead against the Kenosha Kingfish at Simmons Field, but fell 13-6 to the 2015 Northwoods League Champions.

Battle Creek struck first against Kingfish starter Charlie Hecht, scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third.

In the first, with one out and Nick Poirier on first, Daniel Jipping and Dean Miller hit back-to-back singles to score Poirier and give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Truman Brown would tack on another run on his RBI-single, giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead.

Jacob Blunt led off the second with a single, and after Ryan Dorow reached on a fielder's choice, beating the throw on the potential double play, Daniel Patzlaff and Poirier hit singles to advance and score Dorow, extending the Bombers lead to 3.

Again in the third, the Bombers got to starter Charlie Hecht, knocking him out of the inning as the loaded the bases and scored three runs on Blunt's RBI single and sacrifice flies by Dorow and Patzlaff.

But the Kingfish fought back starting in the bottom of the fourth against Bombers' starter Austin Bueter. Bueter who had a terrific performance through three, striking out five and not allowing a hit, gave up three runs on an RBI double and a balk in the top of the fourth, cutting the Bombers lead in half.

The score would stand at 6-3 until the bottom of the seventh when the Kingfish's bats came alive to the tune of 7 runs on four hits and three errors as they took a 10-6 lead.

The Kingfish would add three more in the bottom of the eight on Pete Schuler's three-run homer, and top the Bombers, 13-6.

Krystien Johnson-Battilana took the loss for the Bombers as he gave up two runs on one hit in the seventh, dropping to 1-1 on the year. Adam Dressler picked up the win for the Kingfish, as he pitched five innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Hecht.

With the loss, the Bombers drop game one of the series against Kenosha and the first game of their six-game road trip, falling to 14-13 on the year. With the win the Kingfish move to 11-15 on the year.

The Bombers return to action Sunday afternoon at 1:05 CST/2:05 EST at Simmons Field to finish off the two-game set against the Kingfish.
