The Battle Creek Bombers fell to the Green Bay Bullfrogs 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Joannes Stadium. With the loss, the Bombers fall to 5-7 in the second half and 23-25 overall this season.

The Bombers took a big lead early on against Green Bay. Shortstop Daniel Patzlaff and second baseman Jarrod Watkins led off the game by walking. Designated hitter Christian Helsel hit a single to load the bases. Left fielder Daniel Jipping grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Patzlaff was out at home plate.

With one out, third baseman Ryan Dorow worked a bases loaded walk, scoring Watkins and giving the Bombers the 1-0 lead. Center fielder Dean Miller followed with a walk, scoring Helsel to give the Bombers the 2-0 lead. Catcher Cody Young was hit by a pitch, which would score Jipping to give the Bombers the 3-0 lead. First baseman Nick Podkul blew the game open with a double, scoring Dorow and Miller to give the Bombers the 5-0 lead.

The Bombers would tack on to their lead in the second inning. After Jarrod Watkins singled to lead off the inning, Christian Helsel hit a triple to center field, scoring Watkins and giving the Bombers the 6-0 lead.

The Bombers continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning. Ryan Dorow led off the inning with a walk, and advanced to second base on a balk. Dean Miller followed with a single, advancing Dorow to third. Cody Young then flew out to right field, which allowed Dorow to score to give the Bombers the 7-0 lead.

The Bullfrogs would come back to tie the game. They would score six runs in the fifth inning off of Tommy Parsons and one run in the sixth inning off of Nigel Ward to tie the game at seven.

Austin Bueter relieved Nigel Ward in the sixth inning. He kept the game scoreless until the eighth inning. Bueter allowed Chris Botsoe to lead off the inning with a single, and he was then relieved by Max Ritchie.

Ritchie allowed two runners to reach base on throwing errors, which would allow Botsoe to score to make the game 8-7 in favor of the Bullfrogs. Green Bay would tack on another run to make the game 9-7, which would be the final result. Bueter took the loss as he drops to 0-4 on the season.

The Bombers now have three days off for the All-Star break, and will then welcome the Kenosha Kingfish to Battle Creek for a two-game series starting Thursday night at 7:05.
