Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers split their opening series with the Lakeshore Chinooks winning game two 5-3, marking their first win of the 2017 season. 

The Bombers fell behind early as starter Andrew Click (Davenport Univ.) gave up three runs in the top of the first.  The Bombers offense would help him in the bottom half as they scored two runs, helping Click settle into the game.  Click would pick up his first win of the season, as he lasted 5.0 innings allowing three runs on three hits. 

Nick Walker (Austin Peay) helped to head the Bombers offense going 1-2 and driving in three runs.  Walker would finish the series 2-9.  Cody Hawken (Univ. of Portland) would drive in a run for the second straight game, moving his RBI total to three. 

Sam Lund (Madison College)  got the start for the Chinooks, lasting only 3.0 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs.  Reliever Cole Gnetz (Miami-Ohio) would suffer the loss, giving up two runs in the fourth on 1 hit. 

Lakeshore was led offensively by Royce Ando (Michigan State) who went 2-5 with two singles, finishing the series 4-12. 

Zach Helsel (Liberty) and Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) would pitch 3.0 innings of combined relief, allowing no runs on three hits.   Hawken’s older brother Jake (Univ. of Portland) would come in for the save, his first of the season. 

The Bombers will begin a two game series with crosstown rival Kalamazoo tomorrow evening, with game one in Battle Creek and game two in Kalamazoo.  First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at C.O. Brown Stadium.
