Battle Creek, Mich. – Roles swapped on Wednesday after Rockford handled Battle Creek Tuesday night. The Battle Creek Bombers dominated the Rivets at C.O. Brown Stadium 11-0 to snap a six-game losing streak at home.
The Bombers (17-12) controlled the game early, bringing around four runs off three hits. Alec Trela (University of Memphis) scored the first run of the game after a bases loaded wild pitch. Nick Walker (Austin Peay) then singled to center to move two more runners to home. One batter later, Jordan Getzelman (Menlo College) pounded a ground rule double to center which scored Walker, making it a 4-0 Battle Creek lead.
Dakota Edwards (Cal State Stanislaus) arrived in Battle Creek just 24 hours prior to his start today and delivered a gem. Edwards threw six innings, allowed six hits but no runs in all his innings of work. The Turlock, California native struck out six and walked none.
The second inning saw Battle Creek strike for three more runs despite Rockford making a pitching change to start the inning. Alex Howard (Arkansas State) doubled to bring home Trela. Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) smashed his second home run of the year to score Howard and himself, it put Battle Creek on top 7-0.
Battle Creek kept going in the third, with back-to-back doubles by Nikola Vasic (Southern Illinois) and Cody Hawken (University of Portland). The fourth and fifth innings were quiet for the Bombers offensively.
The sixth inning saw Battle Creek keep rolling. J.D. Mundy (Virginia Tech) cracked his first double of the night and scored Howard from second. One batter later, Justin Felix (Arkansas State) rocketed his first home run blast of the year to put Battle Creek up 10-0 on Rockford.
The Bombers continued to put the pedal to the metal in the eighth, as J.D. Mundy would grab his third double of the night, and fourth hit of the ballgame to start. With bases loaded, Hawken recorded his second double of the night, and brought in the final runs of the night for Battle Creek, giving them a 13-0 lead on Rockford.
All in all, the game saw 13 hits for Battle Creek with nine doubles (season-high) and two home runs (season-high at home). The Bombers shutout their opponent for the second time this season.
Battle Creek will hit the road for a four-game road trip next, heading to Fon du Lac and seeing the Doc Spiders for the first time this season.
