Madison, Wisc. – The Battle Creek Bombers suffered a 13-3 loss to the Madison Mallards Saturday night, it was Battle Creek’s first loss in six games. In a close affair that saw the Bombers down 4-2 after the top of the seventh, Madison exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to put away Battle Creek. The Bombers have fallen to second place in the second half South Division standings.

Battle Creek (35-23, 15-8) faced an early deficit in the bottom of the second. Madison (31-27, 12-11) scored three runs off three hits on Battle Creek starter Andrew Click (Davenport University). Click walked and hit a batter to begin the inning, followed by back-to-back-to-back singles by the Mallards to take a 3-0 lead.

The Bombers offense was stagnant from innings three though six until the seventh inning. JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) and Nikola Vasic (Southern Illinois) singled with one out. Evan Faccenda (Clarke University) brought both around on an two out single to cut the Battle Creek deficit 4-2.

Madison responded immediately in the bottom half of the seventh. The Mallards started the inning with bases loaded and nobody out. Battle Creek reliever Alex Smith (University of Memphis) would walk three-straight batters to extend Madison’s lead to 7-2. A fielder’s choice, error on the defense and single would score four more runs for the Mallards, making it 11-2.

In the top of the eighth, Battle Creek left the bases loaded. Madison scored two runs off Battle Creek’s Gavin Homer (McHenry County College) to take a 13-3 lead.

Battle Creek and Madison will square off for game two tomorrow at 4:05 ET at Warner Park in Madison, Wisconsin. It will be the series finale before Battle Creek returns to C.O. Brown Stadium to host Rockford. Neil Doyle will have the call on the Bombers Radio Network ten minutes prior to first pitch.
