Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers advance in the Northwoods League 2017 playoffs with their 2-0 win against the Rockford Rivets at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Both Battle Creek and Lakeshore saw strong innings from their starters. Dakota Edwards (Cal State Stanislaus) and Rockford’s starter found themselves in a duel until the seventh inning. Battle Creek in the seventh inning got a leadoff double by Alex Howard (Arkansas State) to start followed by a single by Nick Walker (Austin Peay) put the Bombers in a good position. Storm Joop (University of Indianapolis) scored the first run of the game on a fielder’s choice.

Battle Creek’s Edwards surrendered a leadoff double in the eighth, but he sat down the next three batters to keep it at a 1-0 Battle Creek lead.

The Bombers almost got a home run from Aaron Antonini (Middle Tennessee State) but it was ruled a ground rule double. Cody Hawken (University of Portland) reached on an error on the third baseman which scored Antonini, making it a 2-0 Battle Creek lead.

Edwards completed the complete game shutout the next inning, giving Battle Creek the 2-0 win.

Battle Creek will either face the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters or Lakeshore Chinooks on Tuesday night. If the Rapids win, Battle Creek will go to Witter Field, if the Chinooks win then they come to C.O. Brown
