The Bombers were handed their third loss of the 2011 season Friday night at C.O. Brown Stadium, a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Wisconsin Woodchucks, splitting the series 1-1. It is the first series this season the Bombers have not won.
Battle Creek was the first to get a run across when Troy White slugged a pitch deep over the left field wall in the third inning. It was the only run that would score, and White would be the only runner ever to pass second base for the Bombers. Battle Creek recorded 12 hits (double that of the Woodchucks), all singles besides White’s homer.
Ben Ballantine threw a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but then loaded the bases and Derek Peterson hit a two-run RBI, giving Wisconsin the lead they would never surrender. John Morrison, in his first appearance of the season, gave up a pair of runs in the eight, putting the game out of reach.
At the plate for the Bombers, Alex Robinson was a revelation in his first game for the team: the Notre Dame outfielder went 3-4 with three singles.
Tomorrow night is the beginning of a new series at C.O. Brown Stadium, when the Madison Mallards visit to begin a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Fans can catch all the action live on the Bombers video webcast, streaming at www.nwltickets.com and www.battlecreekbombers.com, with Voice of the Bombers, Greg Talbott, calling the action.
