Loggers Lock in a Pair of Infielders
Juniors Knight and Engell to Dawn the Logger Green

(LA CROSSE, WI) The La Crosse Loggers baseball club added to their 2009 roster by nabbing a pair of infielders. Team officials announced that junior infielders Austin Knight from Dallas Baptist and Chris Engell from the University of San Diego will be dawning the Logger green this summer.

This will be Knight’s third experience of high-level summer collegiate competition after competing in both the Texas and Cape Cod Leagues the past two summers. The switch-hitting junior from Denton, Texas earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors in 2007 after hitting .338 with 43 RBI and a .480 on-base percentage. Knight had another sensational season as a sophomore in 2008 when he hit .290 for the DBU team that won 37 games and qualified for a NCAA Regional.

Chris Engell is slated to start at second base for the traditionally highly-ranked San Diego team after two solid years under Coach Andy McKay at Sacramento City College. Engell, who has the ability to play anywhere in the infield, hit .364 this past spring at Sac City and earned first-team All Big 8 Conference honors for his efforts. Engell will also be reunited with former Sac City alum Chris Elder in La Crosse this summer.
