Express Add Two for 2009

(EAU CLAIRE, WI) Eau Claire Express field manager Dale Varsho announced that pitcher/outfielder Lucas Herbst and outfielder Blake Silguero have committed to play with the team in 2009. The two newcomers bring the Express roster to five.

Herbst is a 6-foot, 170-pound freshman at Santa Clara University. The Monterey, CA native was a standout in high school as both a position player and a pitcher. As a senior, Herbst earned Monterey Bay League MVP honors after batting .424 with five home runs and posting a 5-0 record with a 1.45 earned run average. Varsho expects Herbst to contribute as both an outfielder and pitcher with the Express. He’s hitting .267 in his first 12 games for the Broncos this season.

Silguero is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Austin, TX. The San Diego State sophomore spent 2008 at Cisco Community College in Cisco, Texas. In 52 games played there, he batted .363 with 11 home runs and 52 runs batted in. Silguero’s home run total was good for fourth in the conference. Silguero played briefly last summer for the Torrington (Conn.) Twisters of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. His injury-shortened season ended with him batting .316.
